The Temple of the tooth 🙏🙏

The Temple of the Tooth is the temple where the relics of the Supreme Buddha are kept. This is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It was built during the Kandyan period (1592 to 1815) in the then royal palace complex. From ancient times the people have accepted that the person who is in charge of the Tooth Relic should be the king of the country. Due to this, the kings of the past protected the Tooth Relic with their lives.

The Temple of the Tooth was first built by King Wimaladharmasuriya I (1592 - 1604).
It seems that the Tooth Relic was known as the Elder House, the Relic Hall, the Tooth Relic, the Temple of the Tooth and the Temple of the Tooth.

The city of Kandy, where the Temple of the Tooth is located, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The monks of both Malwathu and Asgiriya offer offerings to the Tooth Relic daily. This pooja (theva) is performed three times a day (morning, noon and evening). The Nanumura festival is held on Wednesdays as a special offering. Here the Tooth Relic is symbolically bathed in fragrant medicinal water. It is believed that the water obtained from this bath has a healing effect .............
